Join us for an evening of networking with your Sarasota L&D peers and an interactive discussion around 'Mindful Leadership for Real World Leaders.’

Some sobering stats: 45% of leaders today report feeling stress as the ‘predominant emotion’ in the workplace, and 51% say they feel both physically and emotionally drained after the workday. Similar stats point to lack of engagement and increased rates of burnout and mental illness in our up-and-coming generation.

Clearly, this is not a sustainable way to lead (or live) in the world.

In our ‘always on’, rapidly changing work world, more and more companies (Google, Twitter, Nike, General Mills, and Apple, to name a few) are encouraging mindful practices as a way for leaders to manage stress, improve focus, and overall well-being. In fact, many CEOs and CLOs now consider mindfulness an ‘essential’ component in leadership training - a way for leaders to build resilience, stress tolerance, and empathy while increasing clarity, focus, and productivity. In this way, mindfulness is more than a trend - it’s a way of being that can help us thrive (not just survive!) in the modern world.

Mindful leadership practices are secular, backed by scientific research, and the good news - if you’re wondering - you don’t have to meditate for long stretches of time (though that can never hurt) to experience the benefits of mindfulness. There are a multitude of easy-to-remember, real-world practices you can incorporate into your daily work and life which can help you disengage from stressful thoughts and emotions, become more focused and productive, and feel more centered, grounded and resilient.

In our evening together, we’ll focus on:

  • What is mindful leadership and why you should care as an L&D professional
  • What is driving the increase in mindful leadership practices
  • Why cultivating presence is being called ‘a modern leader’s competitive advantage’
  • 5 simple practices you can begin incorporating into your workday immediately

We invite you to enter into 2020 with insights and tools to help you live more mindfully and thrive in work and in life.

See you in February!

Brenda Vallieu is the co-chair of the ATD Sarasota GIG, and has over 18 years’ experience in corporate L&D, primarily in leadership development and coaching. Through customized coaching and training programs, she best sums up her work as, ‘I help leaders focus on their inner game, so they can bring their best selves to the outer game.’ Sharing mindful practices with her clients contribute greatly to how she helps leaders create the right internal conditions to thrive in the modern world.  Brenda credits mindfulness in helping her through some of her own most challenging times, like her father’s cancer diagnosis, a move from NYC to Florida to care for her mom, and the (difficult) decision to leave corporate and go out on her own in 2016. She jokes that she was once a ‘closet meditator’ before mindfulness became ‘okay' to talk about at work. She’s thrilled that times are changing…
