Value of Certification

Have you considered elevating your talents and capabilities by becoming a Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) or Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD)?

Based on the Association for Talent Development (ATD) capability model*, the CPTD and APTD are esteemed credentials provided to talent development professionals who successfully complete the requirements. The preparation is an intense process that takes several months and has many benefits:
  • Build and validate your skills
  • Differentiate you in a competitive market
  • Broaden your career opportunities
  • Join an elite professional community
About the ATD Talent Development Capability Model

The CPTD is grounded in the Capabilities model and covers a subset of knowledge and skills and it focuses on the application
of knowledge and decision making.

What is the CPTD Certification?

CPTD Certified Professional in Talent Development ATD Certification Institute

The CPTD is a professional certification for Talent Development professionals with at least five years of experience. It is broad and measures a professional's knowledge and skill application across the breadth of talent development capabilities.

Successful CPTDs report that the process of studying and getting their CPTD designation was a tremendous growth opportunity, allowed them to both learn and give back to the profession, and made a positive impact on their careers.

What is the APTD Certification?

APTD Associate Professional in Talent Development ATD Certification Institute logo.

The APTD is a professional certification for Talent Development professionals with at least three years of experience - those who are in the early parts of their careers or whose professional roles and aspirations are focused on foundational areas of this field.

An APTD understands that well-designed talent development strategies and solutions contribute to organizational success and has a strong grounding in the foundational knowledge of the field.

How is the APTD different from the CPTD?

The APTD designation is intended for those early in their career with three to five years of experience in talent development. The primary focus of the APTD is knowledge vs practical experience.

Evaluating learning impact and the foundational competency of Global Mindset are also included in questions. For more information, access the ATD website at https://www.td.org/aptdlearnmore
