    The Assistant Director (AD) of the Evett Simmons Center for Multicultural Appreciation supports the Center's director in organizational, administrative, and program development in furthering the mission and goals of the Multicultural Center, Student Development and Florida Southern College. The AD serves on the Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) panel for the Office of Accountability, Education, and Compliance and supervises the work-study students ensuring compliance with campus rules and regulations. Being well-versed and competent in multiculturalism and training the AD provides diversity related training on campus as requested.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS   

    1. Works directly with the Evett Simmons Multicultural Center (Simmons Center) director and campus organization leaders to plan, organize, market and execute all cultural celebration events for the school year.  
    2. Approves and oversees the implementation of Simmons Center programming including evening and weekend events.
    3. Advisor to the Multicultural Student Council.
    4. Supervises the Simmons Center’s Federal Work-Study Student Assistant positions including hiring, training, and scheduling.
    5. Handles and resolves any disputes within or related to the Simmons Center, in support of the director.
    6. Works closely with the Chief Diversity Officer on training and speaker activities related to diversity, equity and inclusion.
    7. Provides diversity, equity, and inclusion training to college community upon request.
    8. Serves on the DEI panel for the Office of Accountability, Education, and Compliance and maintains the online DEI outcome reporting.
    9. Participates in coordinating Student Involvement signature programs including New Student Orientation, Weeks of Welcome and others as needed.
    10. Maintains the multicultural & international budgets for the Simmons Center.
    11. Purchases promotional items and office supplies for the Simmons Center.
    12. Manages all Simmons Center social media platforms.
    13. Guides and supports FSC student organizations in promoting leadership.
    14. Serves as on-call staff for campus emergencies as needed.
    15. Contributes to the success of the Simmons Center by performing any additional duties needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.

     

    EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    1. Bachelor’s degree required.
    2. Higher Education experience preferred.
    3. Experience working with undergraduate student organizations in multicultural programming.
    4. Experience with diversity related training.
    5. Experience working with diverse populations including various levels of an organization.
    6. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
    7. Strong written and oral communication skills.    
    8. Strong leadership qualities and excellent organizational skills, as well as the ability to think creatively. 
    9. Ability to handle multiple projects effectively.
    10. Ability to handle highly confidential information with complete discretion.

     

     PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    1. Occasionally requires the ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds and to bend or kneel to reach materials or equipment on lower shelves or in lower cabinets or desk drawers.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    2. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to the typical office environment.
    3. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.  
    4. Work schedules may be subject to change to accommodate student needs, and special events.
    5. Must be able to work both evening and weekend for Simmons Center and campus events.
    6. Assignment is campus-based and not intended for work from home though some remote work may be performed through virtual services if determined necessary by the College.
